Terms and cancellation policy

1. About these terms

These terms apply to all workshops, cooking lessons, events and gift vouchers from Koken uit India in Heerenveen, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 93820968, VAT number NL005045466B71. You agree to them when you send a request and when you confirm a proposal.

2. Booking and payment

• A request through the website is not yet a booking. I send you a proposal with the date, the price and the number of people.
• Your booking is confirmed once you accept that proposal and the payment has arrived.
• Payment is up front, unless we agree otherwise together.
• Prices for private customers include VAT. For companies I quote excluding VAT.

3. Cancelling: workshops and cooking lessons

Cancel by email. The date your email reaches me is the one that counts.

• More than 14 days before: you get a full refund.
• 7 to 14 days before: move to another date free of charge, or get 50% back.
• Less than 7 days before: no refund. You may send someone else in your place.
• No-show without notice: no refund.

I refund within 14 days, to the account you paid from.

4. Cancelling: events and company outings

For an event I shop for the whole group and keep a day free, so different notice periods apply. The percentages below are cancellation charges: that share is invoiced to you, or withheld from what you have already paid. You get the rest back.

• More than 30 days before: no cancellation charge, you get everything back.
• 14 to 30 days before: 50% cancellation charge, you get 50% back.
• 7 to 14 days before: 75% cancellation charge, you get 25% back.
• Less than 7 days before: 100% cancellation charge, you get nothing back.

5. Sending someone in your place

Cannot make it yourself but someone else can? They may take your place, even on the day itself. Just let me know their name and any allergies beforehand. This costs you nothing.

6. Numbers, allergies and dietary wishes

• The number of people is fixed 7 days before the date. After that I charge for the number agreed at that point, even if fewer people turn up.
• Let me know allergies and dietary wishes at least 7 days ahead, so I can take them into account when shopping.
• I cook in a kitchen where nuts, gluten, dairy and mustard are used, among other things. I take great care, but I cannot rule out traces.

7. If I have to cancel

• If I have to cancel, through illness or circumstances beyond my control, you choose: a full refund, or a new date.
• A workshop with friends needs at least 2 participants. If that is not met, you hear from me at least 7 days ahead and you have the same choice.
• I go no further than refunding what you paid: travel or accommodation costs you arranged yourself are not reimbursed.

8. Gift vouchers and lesson packs

• A gift voucher and a lesson pack (5 or 10 lessons) are valid for two years from the date of issue.
• They cannot be exchanged for cash, but you are free to pass them on to someone else.
• If the validity runs out while lessons are still unused, get in touch and we will find a solution together.
• Once you fix a date using a voucher or pack, the cancellation terms above apply to that date.

9. The 14-day cooling-off period

• A workshop, lesson or event booked for an agreed date has no 14-day cooling-off period. That is the statutory exception for leisure services on a fixed date (article 6:230p sub e of the Dutch Civil Code). The cancellation terms above apply instead.
• If you buy a gift voucher or a lesson pack at a distance with no date fixed yet, you do have 14 days to change your mind. Email me within 14 days of purchase and you get a full refund, as long as the voucher or pack has not been used.

10. Safety and liability

• We work with sharp knives, hot pans and open flame. Please follow my instructions. If children take part, you supervise them.
• If we cook at your home or at a location you arrange, you are responsible for a safe and workable kitchen.
• I am not liable for damage, unless it results from intent or gross negligence on my part. My liability is in any case limited to the amount you paid for the workshop or lesson.

11. Complaints and disputes

If something is not right, email me within 14 days. I reply within two weeks and we almost always sort it out together. If we cannot, you may bring the dispute before the competent Dutch court. Dutch law applies to these terms.

12. Your details

I use your details only to answer your request and handle your booking. I do not sell them and do not share them with others, except where that is needed to take payment or issue an invoice. If you want to know what I hold about you, or want it deleted, send me an email.
